With the State unemployment rate continuing to rise there are concerns increasing numbers of young people are at greater risk than ever of not getting a foothold in the workforce, and hence may be facing a life time of potential poverty.

This site presents recent unemployment rates (published in late October 2014) for the June 2014 quarter, in relationship to the new Legislative Assembly electorates. The site also shows the change in unemployment since the same time last year. The results show how some areas have had significant increases in their unemployment rates, with these changes significantly impacting on younger workers.

About the data

Unemployment information has been sourced from the Department of Employment, Australian Government, quarterly Small area labour market (SALM) publication, released in October 2014.
Information on new electorate seat margins is based on information from a report produced by Anthony Green, 2013 Victorian Redistribution Analysis of New Electoral Boundaries.
